How to include a charitable gift in your Will
Including a charity in your Will
Firstly, thank you so much for considering a gift to charity in your Will. Your gift will help people in many years to come. You will make a difference beyond your lifetime.
To include a charitable gift in your Will, you simply need to include instructions in your Will alongside any other gifts you wish to make, for example, to loved ones.
To ensure there's no uncertainty about the cause you wish to support, it's advisable to include the charities full name, address, and charity number.
Ours are below:
Full Charity Name: Children’s Hospices Across Scotland
Charity Address: Head Office, Canal Court, 42 Craiglockhart Avenue, Edinburgh, EH14 1LT
Charity Number: SC019724
We strongly encourage you to speak with a law society registered solicitor when you write your Will, to ensure it fully captures your wishes as you intend them.
It's also advisable to speak to family members, to let them know your intentions. This saves any surprises and ensures that family understand how important the charitable gifts are to you.
What exactly do I say?
Depending on the type of gift you wish to leave, we have some example wording below.
A residual gift (% of your estate)
I give to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland of Canal Court, 42 Craiglockhart Avenue, Edinburgh, EH14 1LT, registered charity number SC019724, X % of the residue of my estate absolutely for its general purposes.
A pecuniary gift (cash amount)
I give to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland of Canal Court, 42 Craiglockhart Avenue, Edinburgh, EH14 1LT, registered charity number SC019724, £ XX for its general purposes.
What if I want my gift to fund a specific area of the CHAS service?
If you wish for your gift to contribute to a particular service, or area of our care, or you wish to leave a specific item to CHAS, please contact our Legacy Team for a chat:

We don’t always know what the future holds, and which areas of our service will be in most need of funding when your gift arrives. It's also important that we understand your intentions for your gift, so we can ensure we honour your intention when your gift arrives.
If we cannot ensure that your gift will be spent how you intend, we will let you know, so that you can decide whether you wish to leave a gift to our services more generally or not. The choice is always yours: this, is your legacy.
