We went by ambulance to the hospice and they had a room ready where we could stay together as a family. I immediately snuggled up in bed with my baby girl, with my partner and our other daughter by our side. It was so peaceful, it really was the perfect goodbye.

End of life care
Helping children and families in the best way we can
It is unimaginably hard for all the family when a child is at the end of their life.
You can choose how we support you and we will respect your wishes at this difficult time. We’ll listen and be guided by you.
We can help in the place that feels most comfortable for you, whether this is at home, in hospital or at one of our hospices.
If your child dies at home, we can support you to keep them at home until the time of the funeral, or the time you decide to transfer them to your funeral director or our Rainbow Room.
Our hospices have a bereavement suite called the Rainbow Room where a child can stay after death until their funeral.
The family can also stay in the hospice for this time and will be supported by our Nursing Team, Spiritual Care and Bereavement Team and our Family Support Team.
If your child dies in hospital our experienced teams can support you along with your Local Health and Social Care Teams.
Spiritual care
Our Chaplains and Bereavement Team can support your wishes throughout your child’s life and beyond. Our Chaplains offer support for all faiths or no faith and will work alongside other teams to ensure you are well supported.
Everyone is unique so we support in many different ways
Collaborating with other care teams we ensure seamless support.
From the early days of diagnosis throughout the child’s life, bereavement and beyond, CHAS will be by you side, helping you to navigate and cope with the journey ahead.
