CHAS joins UK wide 'This is Hospice Care campaign

17 Feb 2025

This February, CHAS is proud to join 143 hospices across the UK in the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign, led by Hospice UK. This nationwide effort aims to inspire kind and compassionate supporters to leave a gift in their Will—helping hospices continue their vital work for families who need them most.

Mum, Cassy, is sharing the story of her son, Cole, hoping to inspire others to consider a gift in their Will to CHAS. She wants hospice care to live on for children like Cole—today, tomorrow, and always.

“Hello, my name is Cassy.

I’m Mum to a little boy called Cole. He arrived a little early, but everything seemed fine and we bought him and his twin sister home after a short stay in NICU. But Cole was only a few weeks old when he started having seizures. He was rushed to ICU and after four months in hospital and test after test after test, our worst nightmare came true. We were told there was nothing more that could be done for Cole.

From this point on, CHAS was with us every step of the way. At Rachel House we could lie on a bed together with him, eat together, and even have a picnic at the loch. We could feel like a ‘normal’ family. 8 months later we had celebrated Easter, been on holiday in England, had Cole’s first birthday and had a real Christmas with him. It was like Cole just wanted to spend more time with his family. We were making memories in the precious time we had.

Cole passed away on 27 December.

Without hospice care, we wouldn’t have been able to give Cole the best 8 months of his life. Time we never knew we would have, but so glad we did.

Thank you for making hospice care possible for families like mine.

Cassy x”

This is hospice care.

It’s finality and uncertainty, brave faces and shedding tears. Living for now with the weight of tomorrow. But its also love, and life, and celebration.

It’s everything you’d expect, and everything you wouldn’t.

Hospice care would not exist for children in Scotland without you.

A gift in your Will can help hospice care live on for all children like Cole, forever.
