Each family has their own story to tell. We help each family on their own journey, at a time and place that suits them.
The day that Eilidh Duncan met Senior Staff Nurse Lynsey Grant is one that Eilidh’s mum Rhona will never forget.
“The first couple of years of Eilidh’s life were really hard because we didn’t know what was wrong with her,” says Rhona. “She was admitted to York Hill hospital when she was just a few weeks old and we were lucky enough to meet Lynsey.
For more than 20 years, CHAS has been supporting families across Scotland who have babies, children and young adults with life-shortening conditions. The charity and families they support, hail the nurses as their heroes.
One of these hero nurses is 47-year-old Derek Jolly, who is a Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner based at Rachel House in Kinross. In his five years of working with CHAS he’s supported countless families with children who have life-shortening illnesses.
Emergency call outs on Christmas, trudging medical equipment through the wind and rain and traveling great distances, CHAS at Home nurse Sue Stanworth does everything in her power to help families across Scotland who need her.
Sue and her team care for children and young people in their own homes when they are in between hospice visits or are too ill to travel. For families who live in isolated areas in particular, this service can be a lifeline.
