Amelia’s family called her their “little brown mouse” as she loved having The Gruffalo read to her.
Amelia’s mum and dad, Ainslidh and Jamie, had noticed their smiley little girl had begun to slump a lot and was losing coordination. She would startle very easily and become hysterical with her body becoming stiff.
Initial tests came back normal, but things were moving very quickly. It was a worrying time for the family, which included Amelia’s older sister, two-year-old Olivia.
“The consultant came to see us and told us it was really bad and that Amelia might not have long.
"We’d only gone to the doctors six days before and now we were being told we were going to lose Amelia. It was unthinkable.”
Tests finally revealed that Amelia had Mitochondrial disease syndrome 2, a condition that affects how cells create the energy we need to live. The family now had to deal with the heartbreaking news that Amelia would die young.
“Coping with the death of our baby and explaining to Olivia why her sister can’t come home would’ve been impossible without CHAS.”
“CHAS was incredible during Amelia’s short life, but they were even more amazing in the days after her death. That’s why we are honoured to be part of this fundraising appeal in Amelia’s memory to help encourage more people to donate to help this amazing charity help more families like ours.”
