This December look out the running shoes and join us for our 12 Days of 5ks virtual challenge!
The challenge is to walk, jog or run 5km a day for 12 days this December whilst raising vital funds for children with life-shortening conditions and their families across Scotland. Whether you’re at home, at the gym, or outdoors, this is your challenge, your way—participate wherever and however it suits you!
To take part, join our dedicated Facebook group - you’ll be able to connect with other supporters throughout the challenge, share your progress and access helpful fundraising tips.
You can then register for your FREE CHAS Santa hat and set up your Facebook fundraiser from within the group.
We’ve answered as many of your questions as possible below, but if we’ve missed any, please don’t hesitate to email us on teamCHAS@chas.org.uk.
When should I take on the 12 days of 5ks?
We expect most people will begin the challenge on 1 December but as long as it's in December, it's really up to you when you start. Walk, jog or run 5km a total of 12 times across any days in December, you can do it on consecutive days to up the challenge difficulty if you like! We're delighted to have you fundraising for us and hope that you're inspired to take on something challenging to yourself.
Do I have to complete the 5km each day?
While the goal is to complete 5km each day for 12 days, it is up to you how you take on this challenge. We know December is a busy month, so might want to do longer distances on a couple of days to make up the overall distance of 60km - that's okay too!
How do I keep track of how far I’ve run?
Use an app like Strava on your phone to track your kilometres each day, then log them on the paper tracker from your fundraising pack. Share your progress on Facebook or other social media to boost your fundraising and keep the group updated on how you're doing too!
We've set up a Club for Strava users!
How do I prove that I have completed the 12 days of 5ks?
As part of this challenge, you'll be asked to set up a 12 Days of 5ks Facebook fundraiser for CHAS where you can post your distances and update your supporters. These pages are linked to CHAS and we'll be able to see your progress!
How do I set up my 12 Days of 5ks fundraising page?
You can set up your fundraiser via Facebook or JustGiving as part of the registration process using this link. Your banner and title will be set up for you, but feel free to personalise your fundraiser in the 'About' section.
Can I do more than 5km a day?
Yes! You can make your target whatever you want – you can make the challenge as hard as you like!
How do I register for my FREE Santa hat and fundraising pack?
You’ll find all the details in the Facebook group. If you’re not on Facebook don’t worry, email us on teamCHAS@chas.org.uk and we’ll help you out!
When will my CHAS Santa hat arrive?
We will be posting out packs in batches weekly throughout November. We will get yours to you as soon as we can!
Will I receive a medal for taking part in the event?
All participants will receive a CHAS Santa hat when they sign up for the event. There is no minimum fundraising amount but we ask that you try to raise as much vital funds as possible for CHAS. Anyone who raises over £100 will receive a 12 Days of 5ks medal after the event, and if you raise £200 or more, you'll receive your very own CHAS water bottle!
Do I have to set up a Facebook fundraiser?
Facebook and JustGiving fundraisers are the easiest way for you to fundraise. The funds raised are sent directly to CHAS. Use this link to create yours and sign up to the challenge, it’s quick and easy.
Alternatively, if you'd prefer to collect cash only, you can request a sponsorship form by emailing us at teamCHAS@chas.org.uk. We’ll also be sending these out in your welcome pack if you’ve set up an online fundraiser for you to keep track of any cash donations you may receive.
A sponsor sheet will also be included in your welcome pack for anyone who collects cash donations.
A friend accidentally donated to my Facebook fundraiser. Can you give them a refund?
Unfortunately we can’t issue refunds through Facebook but people can request a refund themselves from Facebook by following the below steps:
Send them this link: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/162031714239823
My friend who is not on Facebook would like to donate – how can they do this?
There are two options for them to support your fundraiser:
I requested a sponsor sheet – how do I send in the funds raised from this?
If you have raised money via a sponsor sheet then you can:
If you're transferring donations directly to us for your challenge, please email us at teamCHAS@chas.org.uk. This helps us track your donations and ensure they're allocated correctly.
I want to complete the challenge as a team – how do I do this?
The easiest way to create a team page is via JustGiving. Once one person has created their fundraiser here, they can click ‘Create a Team’ to invite team members to join.
If you’d prefer to use a Facebook fundraising page, Facebook suggests you can add up to three friends to be organizers of your fundraiser to help manage it and rally more supporters to reach your fundraising goals. First create your fundraiser on Facebook here and then by clicking the three dots next to the "share" button you can add organisers.
We look forward to seeing you at our December virtual challenge and taking on this challenge for CHAS. If you have any questions not answered above, please get in touch at TeamCHAS@CHAS.org.uk
